FAQ About The Pittsburgh Guidebook

At a certain point, we had to set an entry cap on our guidebook to minimize printing costs to be able to sell it at a reasonable price point. If we included every experience in the region, the book would likely be cost-prohibitive. That said, a few attractions/events we wanted to include were omitted for various reasons, like a few seasonal events perhaps not returning in the near term. We will revisit these in our next edition.

When we decided to write The Pittsburgh Guidebook, it was important for us to produce a high-quality 6″x9″ guidebook with color photos in every entry. Unfortunately, the addition of color photos increases print costs dramatically, and we had to set this price point to cover our costs. As much as we would've liked to have gone with an even higher quality color print, the book would've unfortunately become cost-prohibitive to sell at retail.

For those who want a budget-friendly option, our downloadable PDF is a great alternative- all the same material, with higher quality images, at just $10!

Yes, every experience featured in The Pittsburgh Guidebook has been written about on Discover the Burgh in a free-to-read article in some capacity (and in some cases, featured in several articles). This book is meant to be an offline companion for those who want a curated, ad-free viewing experience. By purchasing a print or digital copy of this book, you are also supporting local independent media in Pittsburgh.

Our original idea for The Pittsburgh Guidebook was to have it be a comprehensive guide to everything in Pittsburgh, including bars and restaurants. We started the first draft of this book in January 2020, and you can imagine how well that went in the months that followed. When we began to revisit the book in 2023, we realized that many of our original entries had closed, and we wanted to avoid that variability as best as possible. That said, we are considering publishing a second edition that focuses solely on bars and restaurants in the future if there is enough interest.

We have a dedicated resource page on Discover the Burgh (provided at the start of the book) where we keep a running log of known changes, a report a change contact form, an interactive map of all featured experiences, and clickable links to official websites and our reviews to name a few.

At this time, we have not released our guidebook on Kindle and have it available as a PDF digital download instead. This also allowed us to help keep the cost down to avoid unnecessary distribution fees. If you would like to upload the PDF to Kindle, please follow this procedure. If you would like us to get a dedicated Kindle option, please contact us.

After purchasing a digital download, you'll be taken to a customer portal showing the receipt for your order and a "Downloads" section (see screenshot here). Click the name of the book in the Downloads section, and it will open up a page with a Download button to save the PDF to your local machine (see screenshot here). You should also receive an email with the subject line "Access Your Purchase" which will include a direct download link as well.

The Pittsburgh Guidebook is a 100% self-published venture, and we utilized IngramSpark as our printing service. We did all of the writing, editing, photography, and formatting ourselves. As such, there may be some minor print variations in the book.

As we do not have a publisher, The Pittsburgh Guidebook is sold via a print-on-demand model. This may result in slightly longer shipping times, as well as slight variations in printing as this book is not printed in bulk. These issues could include, but are not limited to, differing cut lines, bleed lines, color variations, and more.

Yes! We offer wholesale pricing to local museums, stores, and shops that may wish to carry The Pittsburgh Guidebook in person. The book should be visible on Ingram's iPage portal as well as most services where you may currently buy on wholesale. Search for The Pittsburgh Guidebook or ISBN 9798999657909. At this time, we do not have the MSRP printed on our cover and suggest a retail price of $22.99.
